One cup coffee maker from Melitta
December 11th, 2007
My one cup coffee maker from Melitta is still going strong after years of use. For making one cup of coffee at a time it is simplicity itself. The coffee maker unit I am referring to is not so much a coffee maker as it is a piece of equipment that allows you to “brew” one cup of coffee at a time.
Essentially it is a one piece funnel-shaped piece of plastic that you put on top of your coffee cup or mug, put a number 2 cone filter in it, put in enough ground coffee to give you the strength you want, and then add boiling water. The unit has a hole in the bottom, which the brewed coffee pours through into the cup.
It took me some time to figure out exactly how much water to put in without either not making enough coffee, or making so much that it spilled over the edge of the cup. I have found that for the mug I use for morning coffee, I have to put in more water as the first batch of water goes through. Once the coffee goes through you simply remove the used filter containing the coffee grounds and dispose of it.
To get the most flavor without wasting your coffee it’s best to use a fine grind.
If you are making coffee for yourself and a friend, it’s not too much trouble to make two cups, but you have to do them individually repeating the process for each cup. Just boil enough water for two cups when you start out. If you want more than two cups, a multiple cup coffee maker would be preferable to this particular one cup coffee maker.
